SINGLE-SIZE, MULTI-SIZE AND MANDREL
Our ELICEL® multi-size installation tools can install threaded inserts with diameters of up to ø16 by changing the shaft and pitch control attachment. Above ø16, you will need a single-size tool. Single-size installation tools are also available with a threaded staff. Equipment also available to install Elicel® M2 x 40 threaded inserts.

INSTALLATION
To install, place the ELICEL® threaded insert (with the tang at the bottom) on the tool’s mandrel. With a slight rotation, insert the tang into the slit, then screw on until the first coil of the pitch-control attachment sticks out. Position the install tool on the tapped hole and screw in the insert by turning the mandrel. When screwing in the insert, make sure the tool is perfectly straight over the hole without applying pressure. Continue screwing in the insert until it is 1/4 to 1/2 pitch length below the surface of the piece. To install large series of ELICEL® threaded inserts, hydraulic installation tools are available. Catalog available upon request.
Checking the tapped hole
To verify the tapped hole before installing the threaded insert, use our ELICEL® plug gauges. Plug gauges verify the precision of the tapped hole and ensure the threaded insert will hold perfectly.
Breaking the tang
After installing the insert, the ELICEL® punch tool is used to break off the tang and allow the screw or bolt to be fully tightened. For blind holes, it may not be necessary to break off the tang. ELICEL® punch tools in diameters up to ø18. For larger diameters, we recommend using a pair of sharp wire cutters. Two models available: manual or mechanically actuated.
INSERT REMOVAL
A threaded insert may need to be removed if it was not installed properly. ELICEL® thread removers allow you to remove the threaded insert without damaging the tapped hole.
