DESIGN GUIDE

PREPARING THE HOLE

Molded holes are recommended whenever possible. The conical shape of a molded hole should not exceed 1°, and the recommended hole diameter is as measured at the level of the hole reached by the end of the insert. The upper part of the hole must not be rounded or chamfered, and be careful to avoid flaring. Drilled holes may be used, but performance may be slightly lower that with a molded hole. Hole diameter tolerance: -0.00 + 0.10 mm.

SELECTING INSERT TYPE

Inserts with a head may be used to improve electrical contact or to fill spaces that could cause pull-out forces. As an alternative, an insert with an inverted flange, i.e. with the flange resting underneath the piece, may be used. In this way, you get increased resistance to torque. These inserts are not recommended for use in thermoset polyester with high filler content (DMC, SMC, BMC). For these materials, we recommend using our Screw-Sert inserts.

IMPACT OF SCREW SIZE

It is important that the screw pass all the way through the insert in order to fully expand it. Be sure that the length of the screw is sufficient to ensure full expansion before fully tightening the screw.
