FLANGEFORM

Clinch nut

FLANGEFORM nuts are a durable, reliable, threaded anchoring solution and may be used indifferently on either side of the sheet metal. During installation, the nut plunges the (pre-punched) sheet metal, while the mini-die installation tool below the sheet metal wraps the collar of the nut around the sheet metal. Nuts to be mechanically pressed into sheet metal differ from projection-weld nuts in the quality of finish and their greater clamping force.

BENEFITS

  • Exceptional durability
  • Can be used on either side of sheet metal in a range of thicknesses.
  • Reduced production costs.
  • Eliminates the need for secondary steps.
  • Reduced costs by automated assembly in in-die equipment.
  • Precise positioning.
  • Optimize equipment use.
  • Can be used with different sheet metal thicknesses.
  • Can be used in any type of die.
  • Can be used on either side.
  • High mechanical performance with thin sheet metal.
  • For each thread type, just one nut for a range of sheet metal thicknesses.
  • High pull-out and push-out resistance.
  • Installs flush with the sheet metal.
  • Replacement for weld nuts to improve finish quality without the heat and fumes of welding.
  • May also be installed in two layers of sheet metal.
  • Particularly suited to automated assembly in progression and transfer presses, or in single-stroke stamping simply with a mini-die beneath the press.

DESIGN GUIDE

Our FLANGEFORM nuts and studs are cold formed, then tapped and verified to prevent any risk of non-threading.
The primary characterstics include:

  • High durability, particularly in thin and pre-finished materials.
  • Exceptional resistance during bending.
  • Ensure a perfect, flush finish on one side of the sheet metal.
  • Ideal for use with soft steel, aluminum, or pre-finished materials.
  • FLANGEFORM range from M4 to M12.
  • Material: steel and stainless steel.

NUT MATERIAL

  • BS EN ISO 10263-2 steel.
  • BS 3692 Grade 8 tensile class.
  • Other materials available upon request.

THREADING

  • ISO Metric meets ISO 965/ BS 3643-6H standard. Gauge tolerance meets ISO 1502/ BS919 standard.
  • UNC and UNF inch threading available upon request.
  • Surface finish
  • Clear trivalent zinc plating. Other zinc plating upon request.

PREPARING THE HOLE

The punched hole must have a tolerance of just +/-0.1mm. For hole measurements, see the tables in the catalog.

PREPARING THE SHEET METAL

FLANGEFORM may be used with sheet metal with a hardness of up to 80 Rb.

SHEET METAL THICKNESS

See the tables in the catalog.

INSTALLATION

Use hydraulic presses with or without an automated feeder.

MINI-DIE INSTALLATION TOOL

The MINI DIE varies based on the thickness and hardness of the sheet metal and the size of the hole.

1.POSITIONING

The punched sheet metal is to be centered on the retractable tip of the Mini-Die.

2.PLUNGING

Using a flat or hollow rod, press down on the FLANGEFORM with enough pressure to plunge down the hole in the sheet metal.

3.CLINCHING

The smooth collar at the base of the then clinches around the plunged edgees of the hole in the sheet metal.

4.INSTALLED

On one side, the FLANGEFORM nut will be perfectly flush with and an integral part of sheet metal.
