Self-clinching nut

Our SELF-CLINCHING NUT is a threaded insert with a knurled collar and clinching groove. When inserted in the sheet metal, the knurled collar allows for the sheet metal to slide uniformly into the fastener’s clinching groove to ensure a tight, secure fit.

Technical data

BENEFITS

  • High torque-out resistance.
  • The insert remains fully flush on the opposite side of the sheet metal.
  • Its reduced size makes this type of insert ideal for all electronics and other precision equipment.
  • Easy to install with any type of squeeze-action press.

DESIGN GUIDE

PREPARING THE HOLE

Holes may be punched or drilled, so long as they remain within a tolerance range of -0.00/+0.08 mm.

SHEET METAL HARDNESS

Must be less than 80 RB (150 HV) for steel fasteners and less than 70 RB (128 HV) for stainless-steel fasteners.

ASSEMBLY

Gradual pressure must always be used to install these inserts. NEVER apply aggressive forces with a mechanical press. A hydraulic press should be used instead.

CLAMPABLE THICKNESS OF SHEET METAL

Self-clinching fasteners are suited to any thickness of material down to a minimum of 0.8 mm (M2-M5). For other threading, see the table.

SHANK LENGTH

Always select the longest shank possible for the thickness of the sheet metal. This optimizes resistance to pull-out and lateral forces.

DIRECTION OF USE

We recommend that self-clinching fasteners always be used from the side opposite the head of the insert.

STANDARD MATERIAL

Heat-treated steel, to be used with materials softer than 80 RB (150 HV) (types PS and PSI). Austenitic stainless steel (18/8) (types PSS and PSIS). Stainless steel series 400 for AISI 304 sheet metal.

STANDARD FINISH

Zinc plating and Clear passivation.

AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST

Zinc plating and Chrome plating. Zinc plating and Black passivation.
