TRI-STEP®

TST / TTW FOR THERMOPLASTICS

TRI-STEP® is an insert that features a stepped design of three different external diameters and is designed for a plastic hole with the same dimensions (within the specified tolerance). It is used in thermoplastics and is installed by heat staking or ultrasonic welding. The surface design incorporates two bands of opposing helical knurls. Tri-step® is available in three versions based on exterior dimensions to meet the various application needs. Interior threading ranges from M2 a M8 and available materials include aluminum, brass, steel, and stainless steel.

DESIGN GUIDE

TRI-STEP® inserts may be installed by preheating or by ultrasonic welding. At the proper temperature, the insert transfers heat to the plastic walls, softening them without melting, thereby reaching the temperature of plastification and enabling the plastic to flow into the knurl pattern and grooves on the surface of the insert.

PREPARING THE HOLE

The hole is to be cylindrical and stepped in three sections. Size tolerance for the hole is -0.00/+0.10 mm. The hole must be at least 0.5 mm deeper than the external length of the insert.
Each section of the hole may have a conical shape of up to about 1°.
