SCREW-SERT

SCT / HSCT INSERTS FOR THERMOPLASTICS AND THERMOSETS

SCREW-SERT is a self-tapping insert designed for installation into a wide range of thermoplastic and thermoset materials. It is recommended for applications requiring high pull-out resistance and materials with low core strengths. A flanged version is also available.

BENEFITS

  • High pull-out resistance.
  • Ideal in applications that call for high torque-out resistance.
  • Able to withstand high loads in weak plastics.

DESIGN GUIDE

PREPARING THE HOLE

Hole diameter varies based on the type of plastic, with harder plastics requiring wider holes than softer plastics. For this reason, the table provides a range of recommended hole measurements for thermoset and thermoplastic materials. Preliminary tests will help determine the exact measurements required. Contact PSM CELADA Fasteners for assistance. We recommend a 60° chamfer at the top of the hole to avoid chipping the surface of the piece. The depth of the chamfer should be equal to the pitch of the insert’s external thread. The molded hole should not have a taper of greater than 1°.

LOAD TYPE

This type of insert should not be subject to direct torque.

INSTALLATION

Install the insert by way of traditional tapping. Installation may be done manually (for small volumes), or using a drill press with tap attachment, a standard tap wrench, of fully automated install systems.
